Sa Pa

Located in the northwest of Vietnam, Sapa is a highland district of Lao Cai province and which is very well-known as the land of humility, quietness and hidden charm in the wonders of nature. Immersed in the floating clouds, Sapa looks like a city in the mist. This beautiful town owns invaluable resource of cool climate with a variety of nuances. Sa Pa has Fan Si Pang peak with the height of 3,143m on Hoang Lien Son range. Hoang Lien Son has its name because only on this mountain, people can find the Hoang Lien, a rare medicinal herb. In addition, Hoang Lien is the home of precious kinds of wood and thousands of medicinal plants. Hoang Lien Son National Park has 136 species of birds, 56 species of mammals, 553 species of insects. There are 37 mammal species recorded in the "Red Book of Vietnam. Hoang Lien Son Forest has 864 species of plants, including 173 species of medicinal plants.

Local people of different hill tribes such as Kinh - H'Mong - Giay - Red Dao - Tay - Xa Pho in Sapa are scattered throughout the mountainous areas. The main occupation is cultivation and animal husbandry. In the center of Sapa town and neighboring villages, local people live mainly on tourism and maintain traditional villages.

In Sapa, 6 ethnic groups live together but each group still retains its own cultural identity, along with customs maintained from generation to generation.
